It's about time (continuation, and open to new students) - W1
with Greg Corona
Ages: 13 - 18
Where did everything come from, and how did we get here? In this discussion-based exploration of science and discovery, students will trace the grand story of the universe from the Big Bang to the rise of modern humanity. We’ll explore the fundamental principles that shape existence: relativity, quantum theory, star and planetary formation, geological time, and human evolution. Along the way, we’ll examine how these fields connect; how matter became stars, stars forged the elements, planets formed from cosmic dust, and life emerged and evolved on Earth. Students will also engage with the philosophical and scientific questions that orbit these topics: What does time mean? How do we know what we know? What mysteries still remain at the edge of human understanding? This course invites curiosity and conversation rather than memorization. By the end of the semester, students will understand the science behind the story of everything, and interconnectedness of the cosmos and our place within it.
Rebooting Civilization: The Science of Dr. Stone - W1
with Seema Khan
Ages: 10 - 16
What would you do if the entire world turned to stone—and you had to rebuild civilization from scratch? In this hands-on science adventure inspired by the anime Dr. Stone, students will explore the real-world science behind the show’s inventions and discoveries. Each week, we’ll recreate and test scientific breakthroughs from the Stone World, from purifying water and making soap to starting fires to creating circuits and simple machines. Along the way, students will think like scientists, engineers, and innovators as they explore how curiosity and creativity can change the world. Please note: this class is inspired by Dr. Stone and will include short clips and discussion of scenes from the show. Since every family has different guidelines about what their children are allowed to watch, we encourage parents to preview the show beforehand to ensure it’s a good fit for their student.

The Writer's Toolbox: Grammar & Style - W2
with Seema Khan
Ages: 10 - 18
The focus of this class is on learning how to write good, powerful sentences. Students will practice crafting clear, engaging, and well-structured sentences through hands-on activities and frequent practice. Every great story starts with strong sentences, and mastering sentence craft leads to better paragraphs and more effective writing overall. Students will study and emulate strong, effective sentences from the Harry Potter universe, to internalize patterns and structures. They will explore how sentence structure, rhythm, word choice, and grammar rules create meaning and impact. Through sentence-composing exercises, students will manipulate words, clauses, and structures to see how small changes affect style, tone, and clarity. As they progress, students will apply more advanced grammar concepts to strengthen their sentences, gradually moving from simple constructions to complex, stylistically rich writing. By the end of the class, students will have a robust toolbox of strategies to write sentences with precision, flair, and impact, giving them the confidence and skill to craft compelling writing in any style or genre.
