Art from Nature: Outdoor Creative Projects - T1
with Beck Fahey
Ages: 12 - 18
This experiential art class invites students to explore creativity inspired by the natural world through outdoor artistic projects. From January to May, students will venture outside each week in Raleigh, North Carolina, to gather natural materials—leaves, twigs, flowers, seeds, and stones—to create collages, land art, sculptures, and botanical prints. Each session emphasizes observation, environmental appreciation, and creative expression, encouraging students to connect deeply with their surroundings while developing artistic techniques through guided and collaborative projects. Throughout the seasons, students will explore themes of texture, color, and growth using nature’s palette. Projects include leaf and flower collages, twig sculptures, botanical prints, stone mandalas, nature journals, seasonal mobiles, and eco-friendly dyeing. The course follows the rhythm of the environment—from winter’s focus on form and texture to spring’s celebration of renewal and color—helping students cultivate mindfulness, artistry, and an awareness of the beauty and balance found in nature.
