Join Science Jim for an excellent and fun introduction to the amazing world of Physics. We will be covering Newton's Laws of Motion and much more as we run, pull, build and throw our way to a deeper understanding of a core science. The focus of the class will be to expose the students to the fact that science is happening all around them. It's not just something that takes place in labs or universities. Physics is the science of the every day. Riding bicycles, walking, playing sports, Physics is right in front of you if you know how to find it.

This class will have weekly homework as well as regular quizzes and a final exam.  Part of the reason for homework and quizzes is to teach the student how to organize their study time and improve their study skills.

Executive Functions in Action: Skills for Real Life

This is for students who have taken an executive function class before, preferably at THE. No semester will be the same as each class will be catered to the students in the class. What will be the same is we will be using executive functions and applying them to the students’ lives. Whether it’s managing time, staying organized, setting goals, handling stress, or making decisions, this class focuses on strategies that support independence, productivity, and personal growth. Through discussion, interactive activities, self-reflection, and real-world planning projects, students will build routines, habits, and systems that help them succeed in school, work, relationships, and beyond.

From Sentences to Paragraphs: Building Strong Writing Foundations

Ages: 8 - 12

This course helps students become confident, creative writers by mastering the building blocks of great writing - sentences! Students will review and expand upon how to write different types of sentences, improve grammar and clarity, and use strong details. As the course progresses, students will work on how to organize thoughts into well-structured paragraphs. Through engaging lessons, fun writing prompts, and collaborative activities, students will grow their writing skills one sentence at a time. Students need to already know how to form a variety of basic sentences and should be ready or almost ready for paragraph writing. There will be homework and access to a computer and Google account at home will be necessary. Students will have the use of computers/Chromebooks in class. ELA 1 prior to or with this class would be beneficial to the students and is strongly encouraged.

World Building

World Building is a class designed with fantasy writers in mind! In this class we will discuss the various aspects of creating a believable fantasy world. Each student will create their own fantasy world using the World Anvil website to stay organized. Each student will work on their world over the course of the semester. The last day is reserved for presentations where the students will be able to show off an aspect of the world that they've created. Instructor Bios

AKC Breeds

Ages: 8 - 12

In this class, we will be covering select breeds recognized by the AKC. The aim of the class is to create knowledgeable and responsible future dog owners. Select breeds will be discussed in depth including history, appearance, temperament, grooming, and health issues. We will not shy away from hard facts nor will we forget to pause and enjoy the delights a dog can bring. There is light homework in this class, a worksheet to be filled out each week between classes, due at the beginning of each class.

Please Note: Lunch is required for all who have 2nd & 3rd period classes. Please add the correct lunch to your cart before checking out. If we notice that it is not added, we will add it as a separate invoice to you.

Intermediate/Advanced ASL

We will review handshapes, letters/fingerspelling, numbers and basic vocabulary, as well as basic grammar, including facial expressions. We will focus on expanding vocabulary, describing people, objects and experiences, asking and answering questions, as well as phrases and sentences. We will also review and expand our knowledge about the history of ASL and Deaf culture. Students need to have had recent prior instruction in ASL. If not sure about placement, please contact Stacy and ask to be put in touch with me.

Geometry

Ages: 13 - 18

This 1.5 hour class in Geometry explores the mathematics of shapes, space, and logical reasoning. Students study points, lines, angles, triangles, and circles, along with their properties and relationships. The course introduces formal reasoning through geometric proofs and structured arguments. Students develop spatial awareness and learn to visualize and analyze geometric figures. Connections are made between geometry and real-world applications. By the end, students strengthen both their logical thinking and mathematical understanding.
