Each week will take us to a new state, uncovering local legends and learning about the physical geography and cultural history that shaped these tales. Whether you’re a fan of monsters, mysteries, or maps, this class will give you a whole new way to learn about the Southeast

Medieval Times is a class that aims to provide an overview of medieval history spanning 500 AD through 1400 AD and the dawn of the renaissance. We will be covering important events and themes such as Salic Law, Islam/Catholicism/Protestantism, Charlemagne, the treaties of Versaille & Verdun, Feudalism, and so much more! This is a lecture style class and taking notes is recommended.

World Mythology - T2

Travel across time and cultures in World Mythology, where students explore the epic stories, heroes, and creatures that have shaped human imagination for thousands of years. From the powerful gods of Greece and Egypt to the tricksters of Africa, the spirit guardians of Japan, and the mighty deities of India and China, we’ll uncover how myths explain the mysteries of the world and reveal what different cultures value most. Students will also journey through the frozen realms of Norse legend and the rich cosmologies of the Maya and Aztec civilizations of Mesoamerica. Each week brings new adventures through storytelling, reader’s theater, art, creative writing, and hands-on projects—from crafting mythic creatures to decoding ancient symbols. Along the way, students will compare myths across civilizations, discover universal themes, and even create their own original myths. This class blends creativity, culture, and critical thinking for a journey that’s as timeless as the stories themselves.

Where did everything come from, and how did we get here? In this discussion-based exploration of science and discovery, students will trace the grand story of the universe from the Big Bang to the rise of modern humanity. We’ll explore the fundamental principles that shape existence: relativity, quantum theory, star and planetary formation, geological time, and human evolution. Along the way, we’ll examine how these fields connect; how matter became stars, stars forged the elements, planets formed from cosmic dust, and life emerged and evolved on Earth. Students will also engage with the philosophical and scientific questions that orbit these topics: What does time mean? How do we know what we know? What mysteries still remain at the edge of human understanding? This course invites curiosity and conversation rather than memorization. By the end of the semester, students will understand the science behind the story of everything, and interconnectedness of the cosmos and our place within it.
CultureQuest: Games, Geography, and Good Eats - W3

In this hands-on class, students will explore how geography shapes the way people live, play, and eat across different cultures. Each week, we’ll journey to a new region, spotlighting both well-known and lesser-known cultures to discover unique landscapes, traditions, and favorite foods. Students will learn through board games, art, and simple recipes inspired by global cuisines. From mountain villages to island nations, we’ll see how the environment influences everything from what people eat to how they connect and compete. Get ready to learn, create, play, and taste your way around the world!
