Future Problem Solvers - Global Issues - R2
with Stephenie Stevens
Ages: 12 - 19
We are very excited to invite you to join us as we become part of the 50-year old Future Problem Solvers international community. This organization helps prepare young people from 4th through 12th grades to be ready for an unknown future through programs designed to educate and inspire creative critical thinking. These programs teach better communication and collaboration with an evidence-based 6-step problem-solving approach that focuses on real life problems and solutions. At the end of a year of learning, student teams will have the opportunity to use the skills they have learned to qualify for and compete in the NC Affiliate competition. Winners at the affiliate level will proceed to the competition at the International Conference held at a US college campus. More information can be found at fpspi.org.

In this exciting STEM course, students become engineers and inventors as they use Turing Tumble to uncover the hidden logic that drives every computer on Earth. Through hands-on puzzles and mechanical design, they’ll master binary logic, sequences, conditionals, and problem decomposition—the same skills used in computer programming. Each class blends discovery and play as students design, test, and refine their own marble-powered computers. By the end, they’ll understand not only what computers do, but how they do it.

Our focus is on creativity, activism, and collaboration. At the end of the course, we’ll celebrate with our own little zine fest! Whether you’re into art, poetry, politics, comics, or just want to tell your own story, this is your space.
