Dissection - T3

$355

with Beck Fahey

Calendar Jan 6, 2026 at 12:30 pm, runs for 14 weeks

Ages: 14 - 18

This high school laboratory course offers students a hands-on exploration of animal organs and human systems through guided dissections. By examining organs such as the heart, kidney, brain, and eyeball—with optional specimens like lungs and liver—students will investigate how structure and function are interconnected in living organisms. Each lab integrates careful technique, anatomical terminology, and scientific reasoning, supported by digital models and comparative anatomy discussions aligned with life science standards (NGSS LS1). Throughout the course, students will identify organ structures, analyze system-level interactions, and explore evolutionary adaptations across species. Emphasis is placed on observation, collaboration, documentation, and laboratory safety. By the end of the term, learners will be able to connect microscopic and macroscopic anatomy to biological processes, building a strong foundation for future studies in biology, medicine, or health sciences.

We will determine the strengths and “stretches” (formerly known as weaknesses) of each student and begin to learn how to use the strengths in order to strengthen the stretches. We will use the binders created in Part 1 and work on backpacks as they start to lose their organization. Participation in class is required as is homework. Students must have completed Part 1 or a previous semester of Executive Functions.

Kingfisher, a magical mystery where even bread can be a weapon for justice; Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie, an imaginative adventure about the power of storytelling; Animal Farm by George Orwell, a sharp allegory about power and corruption; and It’s Not Bragging If It’s True by Zaila Avant-Garde, a modern memoir about brilliance, resilience, and finding your voice. Through discussion, creative writing, and projects, students will crack literary “case files,” decode symbols and metaphors, and sharpen their analytical skills to see stories not just as readers—but as literary detectives.
