Environmental Epidemiology and Community Health Science - W3
with Beck Fahey
Ages: 14 - 18
$450
This interdisciplinary course examines how environmental factors such as air and water quality, pollution, climate change, and urban design influence community health and disease patterns. Students explore the principles of epidemiology to understand how diseases spread and how environmental conditions shape public wellness. Integrating biology, environmental science, and social justice, the course empowers students to think critically about environmental challenges and their impacts on human health. Through fieldwork, data analysis, and community engagement, students will assess environmental risks, analyze real-world case studies, and design public health interventions. Activities include environmental surveys, epidemiological mapping, public health campaign design, and collaboration with professionals through guest talks and virtual field trips. By the end of the course, students will have developed the scientific literacy, advocacy skills, and civic awareness needed to promote healthier, more sustainable communities.
