What’s a zine? It’s more than just a mini magazine…it can be an amazing tool for self-expression, storytelling, and connection. In this class, specially created for our young zinesters, we’ll discuss the history of zines, explore all the different forms they can take, and, best of all, create our own zines every single week. Our focus will be on creativity, expression, and collaboration.

Beginner Photography - R3

This class will teach students how to use manual cameras (cell phone cameras are not used in this class) We will cover the settings and how to get the most out of our manual camera. We will be taking a look at different types of photography (people, animals, landscapes and light painting). The class is broken down into sections looking at how to get the best type of pictures as well as some basic editing options.

Brave Writer - R3

Step into a world where words come alive! In this Brave Writer–inspired class, students will explore literature and creative expression in a hands-on, engaging way. Using the Brave Writer philosophy, we’ll focus on playful, low-stress writing projects, language games, and big, juicy conversations to help students develop their voice, expand their imagination, and gain confidence in their writing. We won’t just analyze and discuss texts—we’ll actively craft written pieces that reflect each student’s unique voice. Some of this semester’s activities will include reading, discussing, and hosting book parties after reading The Giver and The Mona Lisa Vanishes, a Titanic Poetry Tea Part, exploring Shakespeare, participating in Socratic discussions, practicing argumentative writing, freewrites, a mini mock trial, and more.

Chaotic Chemistry is a hands-on, sensory-friendly class designed to help students explore science concepts through fun, tactile experiments. Each week features a new project emphasizing curiosity, observation, and play-based learning. We will explore states of matter, chemical reactions, density and buoyancy, surface tension, polymers and more! Some of the experiments include: - Make your own slime - DIY lava lamps - Build a volcano (aka the bread and butter of every science fair) - Elephant toothpaste - Exploding colors - Mentos rockets Yeah. You're gonna want to wear some goggles for this.

Craft Hour with Tea and Biscuits - R3

Craft Hour with Tea and Biscuits is a cozy, creative gathering where students can relax, socialize, and express themselves artistically while enjoying soothing herbal teas and gluten-free pastries from the baking class. Whether crocheting, painting, drawing, or simply unwinding with friends, participants are invited to slow down, share stories, and nurture their creativity in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Each session offers simple project ideas like crochet squares, fingerless gloves, watercolor sketches, or mandala drawings, along with thoughtful tea and biscuit pairings such as chamomile with lemon almond biscuits or peppermint with cinnamon-spiced cookies. Blending art, conversation, and comfort, this class provides a peaceful space to recharge and connect over crafts, community, and a comforting cup of tea.

Intermediate/Advanced ASL for Teens - R3

We will review handshapes, letters/fingerspelling, numbers and basic vocabulary, as well as basic grammar, including facial expressions. We will focus on expanding vocabulary, describing people, objects and experiences, asking and answering questions, as well as phrases and sentences. We will also review and expand our knowledge about the history of ASL and Deaf culture. *Students need to have had recent prior instruction in ASL. Intro to Poetry Slam - R3

In this creative class, we will work on selecting and perfecting student written poetry, the elements of good poetry performance, and finalize by practicing competition form. Look for our demonstration at the Spring showcase! Can be chosen to receive 1/2 transcript credit in Performing Arts or general elective with a letter grade.
